Grantmaking Criteria

The Peter Alfond Foundation (PAF) is a charitable private foundation with principal interests in the fields of education and wellness. The Foundation also contributes to organizations within its principal areas of geographic interest, which include the Caribbean Islands and New England.

The PAF looks for leaders and organizations that share the foundation’s values. Whether you're a nonprofit developing innovative approaches to persistent challenges or a peer funder committed to transformative partnerships, we seek partners who embody humility, integrity, and compassion while working to create conditions where all people can thrive while caring for the places they call home.

The Foundation does not normally consider requests for grants to individuals, religious organizations for religious purposes, or start-up funding for new organizations. Requests for grants for political or lobbying purposes are not considered.

When reviewing major grants, the Foundation normally requires that the grantee raise matching funds from other organizations and individuals.

These policies are not fixed, nor are they binding on the Foundation. They are presented as an indication of the Foundation’s current areas of emphasis and support.

The PAF does not accept unsolicited grant applications; however, interested parties are invited to review our current areas of interest.

If you believe that your organization and mission match one or more of our grantmaking focus areas, please reach out to us by completing the form below. Due to time constraints, you may not receive a reply from our staff.
