We make programmatic and general operating grants to nonprofit partners in New England and the Caribbean. We support innovative, evidence-based programs within the areas of education and wellness that strengthen communities and make meaningful, positive, and direct impact.
Programs currently supported by the Foundation
MaineGeneral Medical Center
For nearly a decade, Peter Alfond served on the Maine General Health board of directors. Through the creation of the Peter Alfond Prevention and Healthy Living Center, Peter was able to create innovative wellness programs. These programs helped bridge conventional medical practices with alternative approaches to facilitate a more holistic approach to healing. To further this mission, MaineGeneral serves Augusta, Maine and surrounding communities by offering programs out of its teaching kitchen, a community health worker program, and other programs seeking to understand and improve behaviors related to chronic illness, nutrition, physical activity and mind/body work.
Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico
The Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico opened the island’s first ever charter school, Vimenti, focused on eradicating child poverty using a two-generation approach supporting parents and children. The school provides quality education, health screenings, family meals, and vocational training among other programs.
Alfond Youth and Community Center
The Alfond Youth and Community Center is the only club in the nation to bring together the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA. The merge was proposed by Harold Alfond and completed in 1999 to better serve the community of Waterville, Maine. The PAF created the Peter G. Alfond Pathways to Wellness Endowment Fund which supports exercise and wellness programs within the center.
Teaching Kitchen Collaborative
The Teaching Kitchen Collaborative is an invitational network of thought leading organizations using kitchen teaching facilities as catalysts of enhanced personal and public health. The PAF supports the TKC’s operational and research capacity.
