Peter Alfond Foundation's Impact Report: 2019-2024 |
Programs currently supported by the Foundation
MaineGeneral Medical Center
Making Peter’s lifelong interest in holistic health and wellness accessible to more people was accomplished through a $40MM endowment to establish the Peter Alfond Prevention and Healthy Living Center at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta, Maine. The Center is integrated into the MaineGeneral Hospital campus in Augusta, featuring educational spaces that include a teaching kitchen. They offer free programs that range from healthy cooking and eating to physical movement to promoting a healthy mind and body. The Center also supports people living in Kennebec and Somerset counties through Community Health Workers, Shared Medical Appointments, and more.
Vimenti
Vimenti was just an idea when Peter was working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico to support youth and families on the island. He provided crucial feedback early on that has guided the organization's successful growth. Today, Vimenti is a vibrant charter school and policy lab promoting economic security for children and families in Puerto Rico. When a child enrolls in Vimenti’s School, the parent or caregiver is actively supported by a dedicated case management team, receiving integrated economic mobility services that include skills-building and support in education, social capital, health and wellness, and economic stability.
Alfond Youth and Community Center
The Alfond Youth and Community Center is the only club in the nation to bring together the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA. The merge was proposed by Harold Alfond and completed in 1999 to better serve the community of Waterville, Maine. The PAF created the Peter G. Alfond Pathways to Wellness Endowment Fund which supports exercise and wellness programs within the center.
Teaching Kitchen Collaborative
The Teaching Kitchen Collaborative is an invitational network of thought leading organizations using kitchen teaching facilities as catalysts of enhanced personal and public health. The PAF supports the TKC’s operational and research capacity.
